Scenario 

An international executive search company* (Select your company) .The company is technology driven and work with employers to source the most talented leaders to help organisations gain competitive advantage and enhance organisational performance. Executive search seeks out the perfect match for both the role and the company – whether the potential candidate is actively looking for a new position or not. The company specialises in recruiting senior management and board positions, which require highly experienced quality leaders. Clients range from multinational and listed organisations, through to regional and privately held SMEs and start-ups. In the public and not-for-profit sectors, the company works with the largest central government departments, educational institutions and the smallest of charities and trade associations.

 

Role:

You are working as a newly appointed, Trainee Executive Search Consultant. Part of your role is using social media platforms to contact and recruit potential clients and employees for your clients to meet their brief. Understanding leadership and management skills and competencies is critical to your role, as you will be reviewing CVs and filtering applicants, and interviewing and assessing their skills to see if they are the best fit for the job.

*You need to select an appropriate executive search company that meets local needs.

As a new trainee, you are to complete onboarding training to help you understand leadership and management in action. As part of this onboarding process, you have been asked to undertake a case study report for an organisation.

The report will explore a range of management and leadership theories, both within a theoretical and practical context. The student will therefore be allowed to discuss a range of situations and examples which could (also) include a wide range of organizations. Motivational theories and strategies must be discussed within the context of any one of the organizations mentioned. The conclusion focuses on the importance of sustaining management’s performance and leadership success with your final recommendations to be shared.   

 

Task 1

Discuss a range of various theories of leadership that have been applied to several management activities and situations.  Examples could include at least 2 or 3 organizations. You must then explore (examine) the application of these leadership theories in terms of their advantages and disadvantages when applied. 

Task 2

Analyze the impact of the application of any specific leadership and management theories and their eventual effects on at least one major organization.

 

Task 3

You must now assess the effectiveness of the management and leadership styles (theories) you mentioned above within the various organizations you chose, telling us what you might have done differently as a leader and manager of the organization, considering the activities they performed. 

 

Task 4

If you were to compare the impact of leadership and management styles on decision making in any two organizations, what would likely be the long-term impact for these organizations?

 

Task 5

Examine the factors you think could influence the development of culture within any of the organizations mentioned earlier, evaluating its importance in fostering organizational performance. 

 

Task 6

Develop a motivational strategy for any one of the organizations mentioned so far in the report, which would help support the achievement of their objectives. The strategy must be detailed and should give examples where both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation could be applied successfully. Note that all the variables of motivation must be discussed, including a range of motivational strategies that could be proposed.

 

Task 7

In concluding, using any one of the organizations mentioned in your report, apply a range of business situations, suitable leadership, and management approaches for managing (continuous) performance and continuous improvement. You must also assess how these leadership and management approaches can support continuous improvement within the enterprise chosen. Your final recommendations to improve performance management at the organization leading to continuous improvement must also be shared. This must be answered in a presentation format (12 slides) to the relevant audience.

Note:

The submission on the LMS is in the form of an individual written report. This should be written in a concise, formal business style using single spacing and font size 10. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs, and subsections as appropriate, and all work must be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard Referencing System. Please also provide a Reference List using the Harvard Referencing System. The recommended word limit is a minimum of 4000 words with a levy of 10%.
