  • Choose one member of the family from the module
  • You need to discuss the appropriate communication and assessment skills required to facilitate person centred care for this family member.
  • You need to include your professional responsibility in assessing and communicating with this patient 
  • 1,500 words (+/- 10%). In other words no less than 1,350, no more than 1,650
  • Double space your work
  • Write in the 3rd person
  • Use Arial or Calibri size 12 font
  • Use supporting evidence throughout your essay and follow the APA referencing system
  • Word count begins at the start of the essay and ends at the start of the reference list.
  • Submit as a Microsoft Word document

Detailed instructions

Introduction (approx. 150 words)

Explain what you will be discussing in the essay

Introduce your patient, give a brief background to them and explain that it is a fictitious person. They have come to the accident and emergency department following a scald to their right arm

Main body (approx. 1,200 words)

Describe the nursing process and explain why accurate assessment is vital here

Explain what the A-E assessment is and why it is important for your patient

Discuss why you need to follow on with a holistic assessment

Examine 2 assessment tools that are relevant for your patient and include subjective and objective data

Discuss why it is vital to have good communication skills – you will need to include what these are and what communication skills are required for your patient

Link this into what a therapeutic relationship is and why it is important

Discuss what professionalism is within nursing and what aspects need to be considered for your patient, e.g. consent; competence; documentation; confidentiality. This MUST be linked to the NMC, failure to recognise your governing body (NMC) will result in a fail.

Conclusion (approx. 150 words)
