LO1: Describe and apply economic models, data and concepts to real-word business issues.

LO2: Describe and analyse the regulatory framework and the legal constraints which UK businesses operate under.

LO3: Analyse the challenges businesses face in a globalised and hyper-connected economy.

[Assessment Task:]{.underline}

Orion Tech Ltd., a fast-growing UK-based digital solutions provider, has established itself as a leader in smart devices, cloud services, and AI-driven applications. The company has experienced rapid international expansion but now faces mounting pressures from economic uncertainty, evolving regulations, and growing global competition. As Orion seeks to secure its long-term future, it must balance rising costs, stricter compliance requirements, and changing consumer expectations for affordable, sustainable, and ethically sourced products.

You have recently joined Orion Tech's Business Strategy Division as a Business Analyst. Your role is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the company's external business environment and propose strategies to strengthen resilience, ensure compliance, and sustain global competitiveness. Your analysis should help Orion Tech adapt to these dynamics and position itself as a responsible, innovative, and globally competitive player.

Note: Orion Tech Ltd. is an imaginary company created for this assignment. You are expected to base your analysis on real-world data, trends, and examples from the technology sector, but you do not need to research a real company called Orion Tech Ltd.

Task 1: Economic Analysis of Business Challenges (1500 words)

  • Identify and explain relevant economic models and theories (e.g., Supply & Demand, Elasticity, Cost-Benefit Analysis, Economies of Scale, Globalisation theory).
  • Apply these models to evaluate how rising production costs, inflation, and sustainability requirements impact Orion Tech's pricing, profitability, and investment strategies.
  • Analyse the influence of government policies and economic interventions (e.g., trade barriers, green incentives, taxation, innovation grants) on Orion Tech's business operations.
  • Provide recommendations on how Orion Tech can optimise resources and maintain competitiveness while responding to consumer expectations for affordability, innovation, and sustainability.

Task 2: Regulatory and Global Strategic Response (1500 words)

  • Critically examine the regulatory frameworks relevant to Orion Tech, focusing on: (e.g., Data protection and privacy laws, Competition and anti-monopoly rules, Trade and tariff restrictions, Environmental and sustainability legislation)
  • Evaluate how these regulations shape Orion Tech's strategic decisions in product design, supply chain management, pricing, and innovation.
  • Discuss how compliance creates both operational challenges (e.g., compliance costs, delayed market entry) and strategic opportunities (e.g., brand reputation, consumer trust, access to new funding streams).
  • Analyse the risks and opportunities of operating in a hyper-connected global economy, including exposure to geopolitical instability, cross-cultural consumer expectations, and rapid technological competition.
  • Recommend strategies for Orion Tech to strengthen compliance, enhance consumer trust, and maintain global resilience while driving innovation.

You are encouraged to incorporate graphs, charts, and data visualisations to support your analysis where relevant.
