Activity 1

Activity 1 Submission Format

The submission for this assignment must be in the form of a Wall Text. The text should be written in a formal and professional style, utilising images such as pictures and graphs to make it visually appealing.  Use clear headings and subheadings to structure the writing. The recommended word count is between 1,500 and 2,000 words, excluding appendices and reference list, and the total word count must be clearly stated at the end of the document. The report should include a title page, table of contents, introduction, main body, conclusion, and a full Harvard-style reference list. Where relevant, supporting material such as charts, graphs, or additional documentation may be included in the appendices.

 

All sources must be accurately cited using the Harvard referencing system, and the assignment must demonstrate your own independent analysis and critical thinking. Submissions must be made electronically via Moodle by the deadline, and the file should be in Microsoft Word format (docx). Students are expected to adhere to the college’s Academic Integrity Policy, plagiarism, collusion, or excessive use of unreferenced AI-generated content will result in academic misconduct procedures. The Turnitin similarity score should remain below 20%. Any late submissions without approved extenuating circumstances may be capped at a Pass if accepted.

Vocational Scenario

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is one of the world’s largest climate-focused events, held annually in London in June to unite communities, businesses, policymakers, and activists in accelerating global climate action. This event actively involves the hospitality sector, with events, masterclasses, and industry engagement focused on sustainable food practices and climate-conscious operations.

 

London’s Community Kitchen (LCK), the sustainable food surplus distribution charity that inspired the creation of LCK Academy, ran a climate festival in June 2025 and is planning to run the event again in June 2026.  LCK has asked LKCA’s hospitality management students to prepare a Wall Text on Sustainability in the Hospitality Sector that could be displayed at LCK’s Urban Farmer Project location in Fleet Street during the LCAW. 

 

 

 

Guidance

The Wall Text should include text and images such as pictures and graphs that illustrate the impact of sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) on hospitality organisations.  You should include the following in the Wall Text:

 

  • Define and describe sustainability and its characteristics
  • Identity the sustainability principles that impact on the hospitality sector such as the triple bottom line and Brundtland Report
  • Explain the role of the United Nations in establishing sustainable development goals (SDGs) and how it affects hospitality organisations
  • Evaluate the way that two or more hospitality organisations(give examples) embrace sustainability in their approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Consider how different departments or functions within those organisations need to work together to meet sustainability goals.

 

Activity2

Submission Format

The submission for this assignment must take the form of a 10-minute group presentation.  You are required to make effective use of power-point slides with headings, bullet points and images as appropriate. Any sources you draw information from should be referenced using the Harvard referencing system. Inaccurate use of referencing may lead to issues of plagiarism if not applied correctly).

 

All sources used must be accurately cited using the Harvard referencing system, and a full reference list should be included at the end of the presentation. Any data, research, or supporting information that strengthens your business case should be clearly presented in the slides. The presentation should summarise key points in a clear, engaging, and professional manner.

LO4: Present a business case for adopting sustainable hospitality practices to meet business objectives.


 

Vocational Scenario

In addition to the Wall Text, you are asked to work in a group of no more than four students and give a presentation with slides during the climate festival.  You must present a business case for a hospitality organisation of your choice on the sustainability practices the organisation could adopt to meet business objectives.   Make sure you get the organisation you choose approved by your Tutor.

 

Guidance

In your presentation you need to provide and outline a summary of the following:

 

  • Evaluate the risks of adopting sustainability practices at your selected organisation
  • Evaluate the benefits of adopting sustainability practices at your selected organisation
  • Recommend what sustainability practices your selected organisation should adopt to meet its business objectives and justify your recommendations.

Extenuating Circumstances Policy

If you are unable to submit your work by the deadline, you should submit are quest for extenuating circumstances before the deadline passes. You may only request extenuating circumstances if you have genuine reasons for not being able to submit you work by deadline such as illness. In these cases, you may be granted an extension to the deadline with no penalties.  For more information, see the Academy’s Extenuating Circumstances Policy on the Academy VLE (Moodle).

 

Resubmission and Retake Policy

If you fail to submit your assignment by the deadline with out extenuating circumstance or if you submit but fail, you will be able to submit it on the resubmission deadline. However, all resubmissions are capped at a Pass. If you fail the re submission, you will have to retake the unit. This will mean attending the course again which will take more time and can incur costs that you would need to pay for. Return of Assessed Work
